Harmonic Sequences

  • harmonic sequence – a chord progression of two of more chords, always in on different scale degrees, creating a rising or falling motion
    • the motive can either by in several positions or one
    • the voices should appear in the same arrangement as in the motive
      • it is not preferable to deal with the diminished chord built off of the 7th still – however, in a sequence it is currently permissible
        • NB = diminished triad will appear in exercise
    • if the bass leaps a 6th instead of a 3rd this is permissible in a sequence
  • brackets = sequences in exercise
