- triads – a chord with three tones
- formed with two consonant intervals [third, fifth]
- fundamental tone [bass] – the lowest tones of the triad
- third – the middle tone of the three
- fifth – the highest tone
- triads are identified by their thirds and fifths
- major triad – M3 and P5
- minor triad – m3 and P5
- diminished triad – m3 and d5
