Dissonant Harmonies, Chords of the Seventh and Chords of the Ninth
  • Chords with 4 or 5 tones = dissonant chords
    • This is because their fundamental tone forms a 7th or 9th with the upper most tone
  • These chords are not independent
    • They are justified by their resolution to triads
      • Therefore all these chords must be let to triads
  • Dissonant chord → consonant chord = resolution
