COMPOSER’S NOTES

Finding Time To Dance is a piece that is dedicated to the Department of Dance at Chapman University. The piece is found in a world of high rhythmical contrast and virtuosic playing, especially on the part of the percussionist. The idea for this piece come from wanting to fade varied rhythmic groups with a Klezmer style of violin playing. After working through the piece, what I found most exciting is the absolute wonkiness that it has in every section. As the piece develops in time, the sense of meter becomes less concrete.
